Version history
What’s new
Stay Focused is at version 1.4.0. Every version so far is listed here, newest first.
Version 1.4 Optional speed bumps, and a day that ends when yours does
- Speed bumps where you choose: letting a blocked site through, pausing blocking, loosening settings. One covers pausing and settings changes for 5 minutes; letting a site through asks every time.
- Breathing guides: Calm, Box or 4-7-8, or a plain countdown. The default pause is 15 seconds, down from 20.
- Your own day. A day can end as late as 6 AM, the same every night or different on each, and a late night then counts as the day before (Fig. 1).
- Weekend amounts are set under Customize by day, like any other day.
- Recorded soundscapes. Plus Rain, Ocean waves and Fireplace are 40-minute recordings packaged with the extension, which adds about 53 MB. Nothing streams.
- Sync profiles. Plus Each browser syncs with your Plus profile, all your Chrome browsers, or a profile you name.
- Cards you can rearrange on the Dashboard, Focus, Insights, Block page, Security, Settings and About pages.
- A session journal you can edit: rename a session, or delete one and its minutes.
- Site icons for the built-in sites, packaged with the extension. Nothing is fetched.
- A new look: warm paper, serif headings, and one fixed colour for each kind of action.

The Plus mark
A change marked Plus belongs to Stay Focused Plus. Everything else on this page is free. What Plus adds, and what it costs.
Plus is not on sale yet.
Version 1.3 Limits by day, and categories you can edit
- Limits, day by day. Any limit or category budget can have its own amount on any day of the week, be blocked all day, or have no limit.
- Categories you can edit. Add sites, pages and keywords to any built-in category, take out the ones you don’t want, and go back with Restore defaults.
- Your own categories: up to 50, each with a name and an icon.
- Backups include category edits, your own categories and day amounts.
Version 1.2 Stay Focused Plus, an optional extra
- The first extras: Plus four more block-page scenes, five accent colours, focus soundscapes, sync, 90-day and 4-month insights with CSV export and a weekly summary, and your own quotes. Everything in 1.1 stayed free.
- A second free scene: Minimal, as well as Dawn.
- Backups include your Plus preferences, but never a license key.
Version 1.1 Locked schedules and Save for later
- Locked schedules. “Lock during this window” locks your settings while that window is on.
- Save for later. Park a link from the block page or the popup. When blocking ends, one notification reminds you.
- A daily focus goal, 2 hours by default, and a journal of every session.
- Category budgets: one daily allowance shared across a category. Any limit can differ at weekends.
- More accurate block counts. Reloading the block page, or going Back or Forward onto it, no longer counts.
- The welcome flow no longer opens on install if this profile has already completed it.
Version 1.0 The first version
A site blocker and focus timer that kept everything in Chrome on the device: blocking by site, page or keyword, six ready-made categories, block-list and allow-list modes, schedules, a Pomodoro-style timer, daily limits with a warning at 5 minutes left, strict focus, a settings lock, a pause before weakening actions, an optional password, insights over 7 and 30 days, and backups.
Updating
When Stay Focused updates
Every version so far has upgraded in place. Settings, statistics and saved links are kept, and a backup from an earlier version still imports.
